Friday Morning

-- Ben Glicksman of Sports Illustrated has a rah-rah piece on McCutch "Pirates' McCutchen Poised To Be 2011's Biggest Breakout Star." We hope he's right.

-- The Pirates released RHP Chris Jakubauskas, who made one ill-fated start for the Bucs last season.

-- Bill Brink of the Post Gazette has a piece on manager-if-he-wants-to-be Clint Hurdle. Hey, we didn't know he spoke Spanish!

Good news on the guys who don't have to be protected on the 40 man. That definitely gives Opie more flexibility.

That was a really nice story in the P-G about Hurdle. While he's not the best candidate for the job in Pittsburgh, he is definitely a respectable, experienced professional manager, and with this team at this point in time, that's probably the best we can hope for.

Yah, Wil, it is good to keep that 40-man felxible. I'm still a bit perplexed about the manager hunt; didn't seem like much effort was made, but hey.

And you're right about the catching. Snyder and Doumit are tolerable; the problem is when they decided to carry a third catcher so Dewey can PH.

That makes it a Doumit - Bowker smackdown for the lefty RF'er, and that's if Clement is out of the picture, keeping Jones at first.

Oh well, we'll see how it comes together.
