Today's Pre-Game

-- Jeff Karstens faces Edison Volquez in a 1:10 PM tilt. The game will be shown on Root Sports.

-- Today's lineup: Andrew McCutchen CF, Jose Tabata LF, Lyle Overbay 1B, Neil Walker 2B, pedro Alvarez 3B, Garrett Jones RF, Chris Snyder C, Ronny Cedeno SS, Jeff Karstens P.

-- The homers given up by Mike Crotta and Joe Beimel yesterday were the first two dingers surrendered by the bullpen this year.

-- Rudy Owens keeps making his case. He went 6-1/3 innings yesterday, giving up a run on three hits with two walks and three Ks for the win; he had a no-hitter going for five frames. The lefty tossed 88 pitches, and 61 were strikes. He's 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA in the early going at Indy.

-- In case you're wondering whassup with Jay Bay, he began a rehab assignment with Class A St. Lucie last night after suffering a rib cage injury earlier in the year. He's hopeful he can rejoin the Mets by mid-week. Bay hasn't played in a regular-season game since late July 2010, when he suffered a concussion crashing into the left-field wall at Dodger Stadium.

-- Buster Olney of ESPN tweeted that Jack Zduriencik's challenge with the Mariners is a lot like Neal Huntington's when he took over with the Pirates. Both GMs inherited nada to work with in the farm system, and he notes that makes for a long process. Don't we know?
