Notes, Grilli

RHP Jeff Karstens (8-4, 2.34) will take on the Reds RHP Johnny Cueto (5-3, 2.01) at 12:35 PM today in the series get-away match. Root Sports will show the game.

The lineup: Alex Presley LF, Chase d'Arnaud SS, Neil Walker 2B, Andrewc McCutchen CF, Lyle Overbay 1B, Garrett Jones RF, Brandon Wood 3B, Mike McKenry C, Jeff Karstens P.

d'Arnaud is back after missing a game because of a stiff neck. McKenry even works the get-away game, but the team is off tomorrow.

The Reds are breaking out all their big bats today - Bruce Jay, Scott Rolen, and Jonny Gomes in an effort to score after back-to-back shutouts. We're sure Dusty Baker is well aware of Karsten's Achille's Heel, the long ball.

  • The Bucs appeared to have signed Jason Grilli, if Grilli's twitter is any indication. The veteran middle reliever has compiled a 18-18/4.74 line over ten seasons. He missed last year after knee surgery, but had pitched for Clint Hurdle prior to that. Grilli is most likely coming to Pittsburgh as more or less a free agent, and the obvious roster clearing scenario is for Chris Leroux to go Indy and Evan Meek to go from the 15 day DL to the 60. He's a power guy, and was tearing it up for the Phillies' Lehigh Valley AAA clob.
