Notes

RHP Charlie Morton (8-6, 3.80) will go against the Giants' RHP Ryan Vogelsong (9-1, 2.19); a better pair of feel-good stories you'd be hard pressed to find. The game begins at 10:15 PM, and will be shown on Root Sports.

Lineup: Andrew McCutchen CF, Garrett Jones RF, Neil Walker 2B, Derrek Lee 1B, Ryan Ludwick LF, Pedro Alvarez 3B, Brandon Wood SS, Mike McKenry C, Charlie Morton P.

Hey, Lee is back, but Ronny Cedeno isn't. Apparently he worked himself pretty far into Clint Hurdle's doghouse Saturday night.

  • Chase d'Arnaud began his rehab at Bradenton yesterday after breaking his finger.
  • Elevys Gonzalez has been named the Florida State League Player of the Week. Elevys hit .600 last week (12-for-20) with two home runs, eight RBI and two four-hit games to become the second Marauders player to garner the award in 2011. Jarek Cunningham was Player of the Week during July.
  • Tim Williams of Pirates Prospects has a post on the progress that Jameson Taillon is making at west Virginia. he cautions that numbers don't tell the tale.
  • As the clock begins to tick, here's what Jim Callis thinks the Bucs will have to dish out to sign Gerritt Cole: "Cole's probably won't agree to terms until shortly before midnight next Monday. The UCLA righthander will wind up getting a major league contract, and I'll set the over/under on the bonus at $5 million and the guaranteed value at $7.5 million. That said, I'd never bet the under when the Boras Corp. is involved."
  • Kendall Rogers of the Post Gazette tweets that the Bucs have a 1-in-4 chance of signing Josh Bell.
