Lineup And Notes

RHP Kevin Correia (2-5, 4.29) will take on RHP Jake Arrieta (2-8, 6.32). Arrieta replaces Brian Matusz, who bopped himself in the nose a couple of days ago fouling off a practice bunt. His beak is bruised, not broken, but sore enough to knock him out for tonight. Arrieta, the youngest opening day pitcher ever for the Os, has hit on hard times and was raked by the Phils last time out. The Bird media is debating whether he belongs in the pen or AAA, but he won a last chance reprieve with Matusz's injury.

KC has been doing his back-ender thing, but his recent propensity for surrendering long balls could make it a long night against an Oriole club that loves to airmail a ball. The game starts at 7:05 and will be aired on Root Sports.

The lineup: Alex Presley LF, Neil Walker 2B, Andrew McCutchen CF, Garrett Jones DH, Casey McGehee 1B, Pedro Alvarez 3B, Jose Tabata RF, Clint Barmes SS, Mike McKenry C.

Pretty much same ol' - Hot Rod gets a night off, and Casey McGehee has beat back Matt Hague's brief challenge at first base.

  • Clint Hurdle has penciled in five different DHs in the first five games in AL parks - Josh Harrison, Neil Walker, Pedro Alvarez, Matt Hague and Garrett Jones.
  • Brad Lincoln still has a little slack in his leash. Clint Hurdle told the media that Bad Brad will probably start on Sunday against the Indians.
  • Guy Curtright has a piece in MiLB.com on the Bradenton's Gift Ngoepe, the South African middle infielder who missed most of 2011 to hamate surgery.
