Lineup, Notes, News: Chase, Morris, VandenHurk Up; Meek DFA'ed

LHP Wandy Rodriguez (10-13, 3.71 ERA) will take on Reds RHP Mat Latos (12-4, 3.69). Wandy is working on back-to-back shutouts with a streak of 13 goose eggs. Latos is 7-2 with a 2.44 ERA over his last 14 starts, allowing two earned runs or fewer in all but two of those outings. The first pitch at Great American Ballpark is scheduled for 7:10 and will aired on Root Sports.

The lineup: Brock Holt 2B, Alex Presley RF, Andrew McCutchen CF, Garrett Jones 1B, Pedro Alvarez 3B, Jose Tabata LF, Clint Barmes SS, Rod Barajas C, Wandy Rodriguez P.

Hot Rod is back behind the plate; JT and The King are surrounding Andrew in the outfield.

Pittsburgh has lost 7-of-9; Cincinnati 4-of-6 and neither team has been putting up runs. It's a bigger series for the Pirates than the Reds. The Bucs aren't likely to challenge them for the division lead, but the calendar pages keep turning and there aren't many days left to make a move in the wild card race. The Bucs have been left as road kill before this season and came back with totally out of the blue winning streaks, but the clock is ticking...

  • SS Chase d'Arnaud (.252/34 SB), RHP Bryan Morris (2-2-5/2.67) and RHP Rick VandenHurk (13-5/2.92) were called up from Indy, and in a bit of a shocker, RHP Evan Meek (3-2-1/2.74) was designated for assignment to clear a 40-man roster spot for RVH.
  • The Cubs swept their first road series of the year yesterday; the Bucs were broomed at home for the first time.
  • Happy B-Day to The Kid, who turns 27 today.
