España juega a Piratas - Bucs v Spain

The Pirates host Spain in a WBC warm up match at McKechnie Field today. Gerrit Cole faces Yoanner Negrin, who tossed in the Cubs upper levels and the Mexican League last season. Spain's not considered top-flight international competition, and today's Pirate lineup reflects that. The game begins at 1:05, and won't be carried on radio.

Lineup: Darren Ford CF, Felix Pie LF,  Gaby Sanchez 3B, Clint Robinson 1B, Jerry Sands RF, Jared Goedert DH, Anderson Hernandez 2B, Ivan DeJesus SS and Carlos Paulino C.

Gaby Sanchez starts at third base as his evolution into a corner player continues this spring. It will be his second appearance at the hot corner. He's the only regular starter in today's exhibition lineup.

Pitchers: Gerrit Cole, Andrew Oliver, Mike Zagurski, Stolmy Pimentel, Erik Cordier and Ryan Reid.

We get to catch a couple or three more frames of Cole in action, which is always something to look forward to.

  • MLB Network's "30 Clubs in 30 Days," show features the Bucs tonight at 8 PM.
  • This day in Bucco history - you all should recall this one. In 2012, Andrew McCutchen signed a six-year, $51.5 M contract extension with the Pirates, with a $14.75M option for 2018.
