Morton v Latos at Great American

Charlie Morton (0-1, 3.60) takes on Mat Latos (6-0, 3.08) today. Ground Chuck did OK in his first start against the Giants, getting lots of balls hit into the dirt though not necessarily where his fielders could snag them. He's faced Cincy 12 times, and gone 4-6 with a 4.27 ERA against them. Latos hasn't lost since August 24th, a string of 21 starts. He's about due, we'd say.

The game starts at 7:10 and will be aired on Root Sports and 93.7 The Fan.

Pirate lineup: Starling Marte LF, Russell Martin C, Andrew McCutchen CF, Garrett Jones RF, Neil Walker  2B, Pedro Alvarez 3B, Gaby Sanchez 1B, Jordy Mercer SS and Charlie Morton P.

Man, you gotta get up early to figure out where Martin and Walker are in the lineup. Sanchez instead of Snider? Well, considering Gaby is hitting .200 with 1 HR against RHP, it sure isn't an endorsement for Travis.

Reds lineup: Shin-Soo Choo CF, Zack Cozart SS, Joey Votto 1B, Brandon Phillips 2B, Jay Bruce RF, Todd Frazier 3B, Xavier Paul LF, Devin Mesoraco C and Mat Latos P.

Xavier Paul gets the call against a righty. It'll be an interesting game; Charlie Morton owned the Reds before he was hurt, so we'll see if he can pick it back up.
  • In each of their four four-game series, the Pirates have lost the first game and then came back to win the final three games. Maybe the Bucs were just playin' possum again last night...
  • Wandy Rodriguez got through his bullpen session yesterday with no pain. He'll throw another one Thursday, and if that goes well will begin his rehab on Sunday.
  • Jeanmar Gomez is slated to make his second rehab start at Indy tonight.
  • As you're no doubt aware, first round pick C Reese McGuire is in town and signed a shiny new $2.369M contract. The teen was assigned to the GCL Rookie league.
