Cole v Strasburg, Lineup, Mark the Shark, Clint

It's the matchup made in heaven - SoCal natives Gerrit Cole (4-3, 3.84 ), the first pick in 2011, v Stephen Strasburg (3-3, 3.38), the first pick in 2009, oppose one another for the first time tonight. It's also the first time that two first overall picks started against each other in a Major League game since Kansas City’s Luke Hochevar (2006) faced Tampa Bay’s David Price (2007) on 8/21/12.

Cole is developing into a workhorse for the Pirates, but like much of the staff has had problems with the long ball. Strasburg has had his way with the Bucs, putting up a 2-1/2.57 slash and 47 K in 28 IP after four career starts, including his big league debut in 2010.

The lineup: Josh Harrison RF, Neil Walker 2B, Cutch CF, Ike Davis 1B, Russ martin C, Pedro 3B, Starling Marte LF, Clint Barmes SS and Cole P. Looks like Jordy's icy bat is getting a break.

The game starts at 7:15 (it was originally scheduled for 4:05 but was pushed back when Fox picked up the game) and will be aired by Fox Sports and 93.7 The Fan.

  • In a year when Bucco pitchers can't keep a ball in the yard, Mark Melancon has the longest current streak of innings pitched without allowing a home run (85 IP) among all Major League pitchers. And he only surrendered one round tripper in 2013.
  • Clint Hurdle won his 800th MLB game as a skipper last night.
  • C Reese McGuire extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a multi-hit game for West Virginia last night.
  • Ex-Bucs: Brandon Moss has 17 extra-base hits in May, and is slugging .773 in 84 plate appearances for the month.
