Orioles Obliterate Bucs 9-2

OK, no point in wasting anyone's time with a long write-up. The Bucs had a 1-0 lead after three when singles by Josh Harrison, The Kid and Cutch plated a run. The fourth was a harbinger of things to come; two infield singles, a bloop and a bases-loaded walk, one of two in the inning by Francisco Liriano, put the Orioles ahead 2-1.

In the fifth, the wheels came off for Frankie. He gave up a four spot, highlighted by a double and two homers to make it 6-1 and that was enough for the Fat Lady. Chris Davis hit two more homers off Jared Hughes and Jeanmar Gomez, giving him three on the night, and Ike Davis banged a solo blast to make it 9-2.

Always classy Buck Showalter changed pitchers with an out in the ninth, up by seven runs. Chris Stewart got HBP with two gone in the final frame, on a 3-0 delivery. Nothin' like a little insult to injury.

Francisco Liriano's final line: five innings, six runs, nine hits, two walks, four strikeouts and two homers on 99 pitches. His ERA is now 4.86. Pirate batters: 10 hits, 1-for-8 RISP, three DPs.

Wandy Rodriguez faces Chris Tillman tomorrow night.

  • Chris Davis hit his three homers on four pitches; two were first-pitch swings and the third after a 1-0 count.
