Bucs Bombed, Cutch Scratched, First Cuts, Today's Lineup & Notes

The Pirates were clocked by the Twins 8-3 yesterday as Casey Sadler's strong streak came to a screeching halt. He was charged with four runs in 2-1/3 IP. This outing, of course, doesn't scratch him from the depth list, and hopefully will become a teaching moment, as he said after the game that he rushed on the mound, causing his sinker to, well, not sink. Jared Hughes gave up a three run homer later, and he's having a rough spring so far.

A couple of Bucs did show some offensive flash. The Kid and Josh had a pair of hits, Andrew Lambo singled & walked, while Stetson Allie drew free passes both times he was up. Tony Sanchez and Gorkys Hernandez added two-out RBI knocks.

Today's Game: The Pirates visit JetBlue Park in Fort Myers to face the Red Sox. The game will be aired on 93.7 The Fan as Gerrit Cole gets the call against Henry Owens. Last time out, Boston started their big guns, and if they stay true to that form it should be a nice test for Cole.

The Lineup: Jaff Decker LF, Jordy Mercer SS, Gregory Polanco RF, Stetson Allie 1B, Starling Marte CF, Tony Sanchez C, Pedro Florimon 3B, Alen Hansen 2B, Cole P.
The Bench: Steve Lombardozzi, Gift Ngoepe, Willy Garcia, Mel Rojas Jr., Elias Diaz, Deibinson Romero, Gustav Nunez, Wilkins Castillo, Sebastian Valle, Jose Osuna, Austin meadows, Adam Frazier.
The Pitchers: Clayton Richard, Stolmy Pimentel, John Holdzkom, Brad Lincoln.

Just a couple of starters in the lineup today; Sunday must be their day of rest. Allie and Hansen are starting, we believe for the first time; they usually come in mid game.

  • Tyler Glasnow, Wilfredo Boscan, Adrian Sampson, Angel Sanchez and Keon Broxton were assigned to minor league camp today; all five were non-roster invitees. The body count for the major league spring roster is now 58 players.
  • Cutch was scratched yesterday with "lower body soreness." It's supposed to be a minor thing; let's hope so. He'll be sitting today as aprecautionary move, and is slated to play tomorrow.
