Thursday: Bucs Lose 4th In A Row; Split Squad Today, Lineups, Pitching; More Injury Updates

Today: The Bucs travel to Charlotte Sports Park to take on the Rays in an A Game. The audio will be on MLB.com. They'll have a split squad at work, with a B Game going on at Sarasota against the Baltimore Birds that will not be broadcast.

The pitching: Frankie Liriano will hit the hill first against Tampa Bay. He'll be trailed by Kelvin Marte, Jameson Taillon, Neftali Feliz, Jorge Rondon, Curtis Partch, Rob Scahill and Guido Knudson. Lefty Drew Smyly will start for the Rays.

Tyler Glasnow gets the call for the B Game against the O's with other starting guys Wilfredo Boscan and Kyle Lobstein. Chris Tillman and Kevin Gausman will work for Baltimore.

The lineup: A Game against the Rays: Josh 2B, Jordy SS, Cutch CF, Stew C, Jason Rogers 1B, S-Rod LF, Matt Joyce RF, Juan Diaz 3B, Frankie P (subs P-Flo, Gift Ngoepe, Elias Diaz, Josh Bell, Dan Gamache, Jake Stallings).

B Game against Baltimore: Alen Hanson 2B, Adam Frazier SS, Harold Ramirez RF, Jake Goebbert 1B, Willie Garcia LF, Danny Ortiz CF, Reese McGuire DH, Max Moroff 3B, Ed Easley C.

Yesterday: Ryan Vogelsong wasn't as sharp as he was last outing, giving up three runs in his three innings and prob lucky to get away with that. The weather didn't help; a high sky and stiff breeze challenged the players; Starling picked up a two base error muffing a fly and Travis Shaw's HR may have been given a hand by the breeze. Jared Hughes and Arquimedes Caminaro were nicked for the other runs.

Disappointing offensive show - the Pirates hammered out 10 hits and drew four walks, but again stranded a boatload as every knock was a single and they hit into four DPs. The young guns looked good again, tho - Harold Ramirez (.643) had two hits, as did Adam Frazier (.455); Alen Hanson (.500) had another knock, too. The box tells the game's tale.

  • Rising with a bullet prospect Austin Meadows suffered an orbital fracture around his right eye during practice Tuesday and is being sent to Pittsburgh for evaluation.
  • Gerritt Cole is penciled in to start Sunday and go two innings v Tigers at McKechnie.
  • The recently acquired Jesse Biddle (TJ rehab) and free agent Robert Zarate (elbow discomfort) have begun throwing on flat ground.
  • Ya needed a scorecard in the press box  for yesterday's game - Doc Emrick got some Root Sports time while Tim Neverett returned to give Boston's blow-by-blow.basepaths, too - Omar Moreno coached first again, as Nick Leyva often attends to regular coaching duties with the players when the team plays at Bradenton.
