Thursday: Ryan Vogelsong v Chase Anderson, Lineup (Starling Returns, Kids Sit), Notes

Tonight: The farewell game of the 2016 season series with Milwaukee will begin at 8:10 and will be aired by Root Sports and 93.7 The Fan.

Pitchers: Ryan Vogelsong (3-5, 4.87) closes out the set against Chase Anderson (8-11, 4.53). These two guys have been going in opposite directions. Vogey has been beaten down recently, and it's a mild surprise that he's still in the rotation. But he said that he & Uncle Ray discovered a mechanical flaw during his last outing, so we'll see what's up with up. Anderson has allowed two runs and 13 hits over his past three starts, covering 16-1/3 IP. The beginning of that string was a five inning goose egg served against the Bucs on September 4th, so he's been on a roll of late.

Lineup: Starling Marte LF, S-Rod 2B, Cutch CF, Gregory Polanco RF, Jung Ho Kang 3B, Fran Cervelli C, David Freese 3B, Jordy SS, Vogelsong P. Well lookee who's back - and at leadoff, yet. It's old bones day at Miller, as the kids take a seat tonight.

  • Pittsburgh purchased LHP Phil Coke, 34, from the Yankees. The veteran reliever has spent most of the year in AAA and is a FA when the year's over. He'll join the team in Pittsburgh, so no immediate 40-man move is needed. You may remember that he was among the choices the Pirates had in 2008 (along w/George Kontos) when they traded Xavier Nady & Damaso Marte to the NY. The FO opted for Jeff Karstens and Daniel McCutchen instead.
  • The Pirates have won 6 straight games at Miller Park for the first time since winning six in a row there in 2002.
