Bucs Go Fishing Again; Jamo v Richards & Notes - More Bullpen Action

Today: First pitch will be at 7:10. The game will be carried by AT&T SportsNet and 93.7 The Fan.

Lineup: J-Hay 2B, Gregory Polanco RF, Starling Marte CF, J-Bell 1B, Corey Dickerson LF, Fran Cervelli C, Colin Moran 3B, Jordy SS & Jamo P. Back to the A-Team lineup tonight.

Pitchers: RHP Jameson Taillon (2-0/1.26) shares the bump with Trevor Richards (0-1/8.64). Jamo has been a ball of fire in his first two starts, taking to the ace role like a duck to water; he was the NL's first Pitcher of the Week. Jamo has one start against the Marlins, going five innings last year and giving up a run on five hits. Richards is one of those great stories - undrafted out of Drury College, he pitched two years of indie league ball. The Fish signed him in 2016 and he made the show this year. He's a fastball/changeup guy with a on and off curve. But he'll be fighting to stay in the big leagues. His outings against the Red Sox and Phils weren't very strong or deep, and a couple of veteran guys are due off the DL in a couple of weeks, so he'll have to show his stuff in his next couple of starts.

Notes:
  • The Pirates claimed LHP Enny Romero, 27, off waivers from Washington. He’ll join the team (no options left) and fill the last 40-man spot. Enny is a middle reliever and there won't be any active roster move until he reports, but we'd guess Dovydas Neverauskas is going back to Indy once Romero arrives. The lefty is a fastball, cutter/slider pitcher who hits 97 and fits the usual Pirates profile with 10K and five walks per nine. Enny had a couple of meh years at Tampa (5.27 ERA in 76 outings) and a decent campaign last year for the Nats (3.86 ERA in 53 appearances).
  • Corey Dickerson has an eight-game hitting streak.
  • LHP Brandon Waddell continues to shine for Altoona. The 23-year-old Virginia product went six innings today, giving up a run (unearned) on two hits with no walks and six whiffs after 80 pitches.
  • Gerrit Cole has almost completely ditched the sinker in Houston, and replaced it with slider/cutter deliveries and curves to go with his four-seamer. Makes you wonder if the Pirates are taking notes or if they'll continue with their cookie-cutter sinker approach.
