"Somehow we have developed this large contingent of know-it-all baseball fans who bay like wounded coyotes at any mention of wins, losses, RBI or batting average. I never know whether I should blame myself for this or not.."

Jeff Francis News
Jim Armstrong of the Denver Post says that Jeff Francis' decision of whom to sign with should be made shortly. He could enlist for another go-around with the Rockies or accept an offer from his known suitors, the Pirates, Mets or Nats.
Francis is the kind of guy who could pay off big for the Pirates, and he was pretty close to Clint Hurdle when they were both in Colorado. I don't know how much Francis has left in the tank, but he would be a good low risk, potentially high reward signing.
I still think the Pirates need one more veteran starting pitcher, if nothing else as a bridge to, and mentor for, the rookie pitchers about to graduate from the minors. Ideally either Correia or Francis or both would perform well enough that we'd have a nice blend of veterans and kids in the rotation over the next couple of seasons. You can never have enough pitching, that's for sure.
