The Bucs used the old two-fer-one to finalize their roster today. RHP Chris Leroux, who was uncharacteristically out of sorts this spring, was placed on the 60-day DL with a strained right pec. That move set the active roster at 25 and opened a temporary slot on the 40 man roster for RHP Juan Cruz.
The FO opted to go with an extra bench bat, choosing 14 position players to go with 11 pitchers. They don't need a fifth starter until April 14th, when they face the Giants in San Fran. Two players are on borrowed time, barring injuries, as Charlie Morton is expected to return in mid-April (maybe in time for the SF game) and AJ Burnett by early May.
The roster for tomorrow's game:
Starters (4): Erik Bedard, Kevin Correia, Jeff Karstens, and James
McDonald, with AJ Burnett and Charlie Morton on the 15-day DL. Both should be
back within weeks.
Bullpen (7): Juan Cruz, Jason Grilli, Joel Hanrahan, Jared Hughes, Evan Meek, Chris Resop and Tony Watson.
Infield (8): Pedro Alvarez, Clint Barmes, Josh Harrison, Matt Hague, Garrett Jones, Casey McGehee, Yamaiko Navarro and Neil Walker. Jones and Navarro can both play OF.
Catcher (2): Rod Barajas and Mike McKenry.
Outfield (4): Andrew McCutchen, Nate McLouth, Alex Presley and Jose Tabata.
