Wandy v Gallardo, Lineup, Cutch, Jordy, Mark the Shark...

Wandy Rodriguez is making his first start since April 19th this afternoon against Yovani Gallardo. Rodriguez has been haunted by the long ball this year, giving up seven bombs in 20 IP. Gallardo has pretty well owned the Bucs, but is coming off a pair of ho-hum performances, so maybe Pittsburgh is catching him at the right time. Both guys have had success against their respective rivals, with Wandy posting 10 wins against the Brew Crew and Yovani notching 11 victories against the Pirates.

Lineup: Travis Snider RF, Neil Walker 2B, Cutchen CF, Pedro 3B, Gaby Sanchez 1B, Jody Mercer SS, Jose Tabata LF, Tony Sanchez C and Wandy. As expected, Starling will start the day on the bench until the club is sure of his back.

The game begins at 2:10 and will be aired by Root Sports and 93.7 The Fan.

  • To clear room for Wandy, Jaff Decker was reassigned to Indy. The Bucs are back in sync with 12 pitchers and 13 position players now.
  • In the merry, merry month of May: In his first 12 games this month, Cutch is hitting .370. Andrew batted .324 last year during May and his career average of .325 in May is his highest among all the his months of play.
  • Jordy Mercer has hit safely in five straight games. Jordy has hit .379 in his last eight games and is batting .300 so far this month.
  • Mark the Shark has recorded four straight saves since his a blown save against the Giants.
  • The Brewers are 83-38 against the Pirates since 2007. The 83 wins are the most by any one NL team over another during that span.
  • The Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association announced that manager Clint Hurdle will be honored with the 2014 Brooks Robinson Community Service Award at its annual dinner in November.
