- Baseball America lists five Buc farmhands among their mid-season Top 50 Prospects: Tyler Glasnow, Jamison Taillon, Nick Kingham, Josh Bell and Austin Meadows. Baseball Prospectus came out with their Top 50, too, including four Pirate pups (Meadows didn't make the list). It's behind a subscription wall, so we've linked to Tim William's Pirate Prospects article.
- Indy LHP Adam Wilk was named the IL Pitcher of the Week after going 1-1 with a 1.20 ERA and a complete game shutout on Sunday. He's 7-7/4.19 on the season.
- OF Chris Dickerson, who wasn't on the 40-man roster although he was hitting .309 at Indy, was traded to the Indians for future considerations: cash or PTBNL. Not much of a return, but it fits in with the Pirate philosophy of not holding back a minor league vet with a chance to play in the majors. Oh, and he also had an "out" clause in his contract for July 15th.
- Six Altoona Curve players were named EL All-Stars: SS Alen Hanson, OF Willy Garcia, C Elias Diaz, U Drew Maggi, RHP Adrian Sampson and RHP Ryan Beckman.
"Somehow we have developed this large contingent of know-it-all baseball fans who bay like wounded coyotes at any mention of wins, losses, RBI or batting average. I never know whether I should blame myself for this or not.." (Bill James)
