Frankie v Lance Lynn; Lineup (Ishy, S-Rod in; Marte, A-Ram out) & Notes

Today's Game - Francisco Liriano (7-6, 3.13) faces Lance Lynn (9-6, 2.76) in the series closer. Frankie had a rough outing against the Dodgers, although his three run homer proved huge. He's 4-2 with a 2.42 ERA in 11 career starts against the Redbirds, and is 0-1 with 3.48 ERA in three outings against St. Louis this season.

Lynn has won three of his last four outings, but the last one, against the Brewers, was rough. He stranded 10 runners over six innings and still not only got the win, but a shutout. He's faced the Bucs twice this year, getting a no-decision in a 2-1 Card win and taking a 5-2 loss in July, and overall is 5-4/4.74. The game begins at 7:15 and will be on the MLB Network,  Root Sports and 93.7 The Fan.

Starling is out; guess his hand is a little more achy than the club is letting on. Also, A-Ram gets a seat, so both Ishy and S-Rod are starting in a the showdown against the division leaders.
  • Gregory Polanco is 9-for-12 in his last three games against the Cardinals.
  • Antonio Bastardo has allowed just two hits in 28 at bats (.071) in his last 10 appearances.
  • Break out the bats: Since the All-Star break, the Pirates rank second among NL teams in OPS (.767), third in batting average (.269) and OBP (.328), fourth in slugging percentage (.439) and tied for fourth in home runs (26).
  • Josh and Jordy should be back in the Indy lineup tonight on their rehab tour..

  1. We need a W tonight.
    A-Ram sitting - thank god!
PPG says A-Ram to try 1B according to Hurdle.
WOW! We are in HUGE trouble. Replacing Pedro w/Ramirez at 1B is NOT the answer.

Also, why in this case do Jordy and JaHay have to spend time in Indy. Triple A baseball is pretty rigorous, why not have them rehab with the big club. Why wait a single game more on JayHey Mercer - if they are good/safe enough to play at the AAA level, they should be in STL

Said another way - 80% of JHay and Mercer is better than 100% of A-ram/ishy/srod

    Go Bucco's

  2. Well, got the win. And yah, first base is an abyss right now; have u ever heard of a team carrying five! potential 1B'man before - Pedro, S-Rod, Ishy, Michael Morse & now A-Ram (we won't count Corey hart or Andrew Lambo)? Josh Bell can't get here quick enough.

As far as Jordy and Josh, I wouldn't be surprised to see them back by next weekend if all goes well; maybe a day or two sooner. Both look like they're well on the road back at Indy so far. Can't really fault the Bucs for a little caution; the Cards brought Holliday back too soon; he reinjured his quad, and is back on the DL. So I think the rehab is to make sure they get through September and October rather than fill the short-term need which now exists. But yep, they will be a big add to the lineup.
