Monday: Bucs Win; Roster Cut Down Day; Red Sox Game Day - Pitching & Lineup

Today: The Bucs visit the Red Sox at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers for a 1:05 game. It's a MLB.com audio-only broadcast (you can get it on the Pirates web site).

The pitching: Ryan Vogelsong answers the bell today, with John Holdzkom, Trey Haley and Kyle Lobstein slated for some work. Joe Kelly gets the ball for the Bosox.

The lineup: Alen Hanson 2B, Fran Cervelli C, Gregory Polanco RF, Jason Rogers 3B, Matt Joyce LF, Jake Goebbert 1B, Willy Garcia CF, Gift Ngoepe SS, Vogelsong P.

Yesterday: Gerrit got thru his first spring outing, giving up a pair of solo homers, one a very wind-aided fly, while tossing 37 pitches with a whiff. Tony Watson also gave up a two run shot as five balls left Bradenton's gusty yard, but thanks to 3-RBI days from Starling Marte and Elias Diaz (each of whom went long), the Bucs took a 9-5 win from Detroit. Josh Harrison, with a pair of doubles, joined Marte & Diaz in Sunday's two-hit club. Here's the box score.

  • Option day: The Pirates have sent Tyler Glasnow & Jameson Taillon to Indy and Harold Ramirez to Altoona. Pitchers Steven Brault, Chad Kuhl, Kelvin Marte &Trevor Williams, along w/C Reese McGuire were reassigned to minor league camp. H-Ram will report later; he left camp today to join Team Colombia (along w/minor league OF'er Tito Polo) for the WBC.
  • Chad Thornburg of MLB.com picks out each team's most likely 2016 breakout candidate; for the Bucs, he likes Gregory Polanco.
  • A piece on the Pirate way by Richard Justice of MLB.com
  • Four bobblehead give-aways on tap this year, starring the Parrot, Gerrit Cole, JHK and Frankie.
  • The Mariners released 1B Gaby Sanchez.
