Bucs Look to Broom Reds, Jamo v Bailey, Lineup & Notes

Today: The game begins at 7:05 and will be aired by AT&T SportsNet & 93.7 The Fan. It's Roberto Clemente Day around the league and all the home teams will recognize their Roberto Clemente Award guys. Fittingly enough, the Pirates honoree is on the hill tonight.

Pitchers:  RHP Jameson Taillon (11-9, 3.45) ends the set against RHP Homer Bailey (1-13, 6.13). Jamo has allowed three earned runs or fewer in 17 straight starts, a streak surpassed this season by only Jacob deGrom, with a 2.93 ERA during that stretch. He last faced the Reds on July 20th, when he allowed one run in 5-1/3 innings. Bailey has just one win in 19 starts this season. He's gone five innings or more in his last four outings, but has a 5.91 ERA in that span. The righty's last win came on May 12th, so he's probably due...or not; this is his fourth straight pretty awful season. He's lost to the Bucs twice this year, giving up nine runs (eight earned) on 17 hits in 9-2/3 IP.

Lineup: Starling Marte CF, Adam Frazier 2B, Gregory Polanco RF, Fran Cervelli C, Corey Dickerson LF, Jose Osuna 1B, Colin Moran 3B, Kevin Newman SS & Taillon P. Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue...

Notes:
  • Ivan Nova, who was granted some time off to deal with a personal matter and missed his last start, is back with the team.
  • The only surprise regarding the Pirates September additions is that Max Moroff didn't get a call; looks like the Kevins and Pablo Reyes have put his spot on thin ice, especially with the club giving heir apparent Fraze a lot of work at second.
  • The Pirates have won five straight games against the Reds, gone 7-1 in the last eight meetings and are 11-4 overall this season.
  • The Bucs roll out the Clemente Day CARE-a-Van today: the Pirates and Pirates Charities will honor the legacy of the Great One with a day of visits and projects benefiting vets, the Miracle League and students around greater Pittsburgh.
  • The Pirates are off tomorrow, with the Marlins coming to town for the weekend.
