Willy v Drew Pomeranz, Lineup & Notes

Game: The ballgame starts at 7:05 and will be on AT&T SportsNet & 93.7 The Fan. Milwaukee is going for a sweep.

Lineup: Kevin Newman SS, Bryan Reynolds LF, Starling Marte CF, Jose Osuna 1B, Melky Cabrera RF, Colin Moran 3B, Pablo Reyes 2B, Jake Stallings C, Trevor Williams P. Redbeard starts against a lefty. There aren't many options with Bell down except for Erik Gonzalez, so Colin is the only southpaw swinger in the lineup. Fraze's day off was scheduled, per Clint. Eli's off, too; maybe he's spending the day going over the playbook to see how rundowns are drawn up.

Pitchers: RHP Trevor Williams (4-4/4.75) closes the set against LHP Drew Pomeranz (2-9/5.54). Willy looks like he's finding his way after his stint on the IL; after a rough return, his last three starts have been solid. He hasn't taken on Milwaukee yet this year, but in three 2018 outings, Trevor tossed 19 scoreless frames. Zach Davies was supposed to start, but landed on the IL earlier in the week with a balky back. Pomeranz has been a starter most of his career, but has been relegated to the pen. There's a good possibility, that with tomorrow being an off day, that the Brewers turn this into a opener-type game, depending on his performance. Drew has pretty big splits, and the Pirates are throwing eight righties at him. He tossed a scoreless inning against the Bucs on Monday, giving up two hits but fanning three.

Notes:
  • The Pirates have dropped 20-of-24.
  • Cervy was catching some BP at the yard before the game.
  • You may remember RHP Tom Koehler, 33, who the Pirates signed as a FA during the off season. He finally got back on the hill yesterday, albeit in rookie league ball, after missing 2018-19 because of shoulder surgery, so we'll see if he's still got enough in the tank to get on the 2020 radar.
