Sunday Shake & Bake: Tyler Anderson v Kyle Hendricks; Hayes to 60-Day IL, Moran, Reynolds Out, Gamel Claimed, Feliz DFA'ed, Hartlieb & Stokes Jr. Called Up

Today's Game: The series curtain drop begins at 2:20 and will be broadcast by AT&T SportsNet & 93.7 The Fan

Lineup: Adam Frazier 2B; Kevin Newman SS; Ka'ai Tom LF, Jake Stallings C; Erik Gonzalez 3B; Wilmer Difo CF; Todd Frazier 1B; Troy Stokes Jr. RF; Tyler Anderson P. Well, dang.

Pitchers: LHP Tyler Anderson (2-3/3.24) closes the set against RHP Kyle Hendricks (2-3/6.07). Tyler (along with Bru) is a glue man in the rotation, consistently pumping out solid starts. But the Cubs had his number, at least in April - he's 0-2 against them (and Jake Arrieta) this year, allowing six runs in 10-1/3 IP (three homers hurt him) and they're the only club that has scored more than two runs in any outing against him this season. Hendricks has been much tougher than his line would indicate - 14 of the 20 runs he's given up have been put up by the Braves in just two starts lasting 7-2/3 IP. The Pirates beat him on April Fool's Day, scoring three times in three innings on the way to a 5-3 victory.

Notes:

  • Oh, mama: Ke'Bryan Hayes (wrist) went on the 60-day IL retro to 4/4, Colin Moran (groin) went on the 10-day IL and Bryan Reynolds is day-to-day with "lower body soreness" (geez, that sounds even worse than "discomfort.") Troy Stokes Jr. was called up from Indy. The 25-year-old has speed, a good glove and some pop, but missed 2020 with hamate surgery. This is his first MLB posting. As for Ke'Bryan, the 60-day IL frees up a roster spot and Shelty said fits his expected rehab schedule. The Pirates have sure generated a lot of hem, haw and haze regarding his injury.
  • Help on the way? OF Ben Gamel was claimed from Cleveland. Michael Feliz was DFA'ed to clear a roster space, and Geoff Hartlieb was recalled. He added that he expects Gregory Polanco back before too long and that Chad Kuhl is nearing a minor league rehab assignment. Got that new scorecard straight now?

Tomorrow's Game: After the game, the Bucs head back to Pittsburgh for three games against the Reds and a four-gamer v the Giants. The Cincy opener begins at 6:35 with Mitch Keller taking on Tyler Mahle and will be carried by AT&T SportsNet & 93.7 The Fan.
