• Moves: LHP Dillon Peters was officially called up Sunday to close out the Brewer series; he was workmanlike but bitten by a couple of defensive misplays. RHP Bryse Wilson was placed on the 10-day IL with arm fatigue to clear a spot. OF Ben Gamel (hamstring) was reinstated off the IL to replace OF Anthony Alford, who was scratched from Saturday's twin bill with back spasms and then put on the 10-day IL. Finally, RH reliever Shea Spitzbarth was added as the 27th man for the second game.
• Jon Heyman reports that corner fielder Yoshitomo Tsutsugo is signing with the Pirates after being released by the Dodgers. The five-time Japanese All Star, 29, has hit .181/8 HR in MLB for Tampa Bay and LA in 260 AB's collected in 2020-21.

• Kevin Newman, who wasn’t even in the original lineup, drilled four doubles against the Brewers at PNC Park, tying a much-shared MLB record. It was the third time the feat’s been done in Pirates history, as Newman joined Paul Waner (May 20th, 1932) and Adam Frazier (July 1st, 2019) in the record book. Newman actually swatted five doubles in his last six plate appearances, which hasn't been done since 2007, per Joe Block.
• The Pirates banged out a season-high 19 hits, with six players having multi-hit days, in a 14-4 win over the Brew Crew in Saturday's opener, snapping an eight game losing streak. They were shutout in the second game, but did have a decent day at the gate. The club drew 16,991 for the opener, mainly folks using their rain checks from Friday night, and then 24,081 for the second match, a Fireworks Night promo. 
• Neil Walker took his AT&T SportsNet analyst bow on Saturday after being rained out Friday.
• This weekend closed the season series against Milwaukee. The Bucs went 5-14 against the Brew Crew this year (2-8 at PNC Park and 3-6 at American Family Field). After the Brewer series, the Pirates travel to California for the start of a six-game, seven-day road trip to Los Angeles and St. Louis. The Bucs have lost nine in a row in the City of Angels; their last win there was in 2016.
• C Kevan Smith, 33, former Pitt/Seneca Valley QB turned baseball guy, has opted for free agency after being DFA'ed by Atlanta.
