Notes: BC & the Post Season; Contracts; Prospects of the Year; MLB Dates

Let's hope for a better offseason than regular campaign:

Notes:

  • In his after-season presser, Ben Cherington told the media gang that: the coaching staff will remain intact (unless a coach leaves of his own volition) and may be added to; he has enough money to play with (it doesn't sound like he expects to need a lot); they're looking for a vet pitcher; are poking around at all options for first base (internal or market) and the FO is still iffy about C Roberto Perez's return, and that position is also a concern though BC professes love for Jason Delay and Tyler Heineman.
  • MLBTR has their post season recaps out. First, Darragh McDonough looks at the Pirates contract situation (basically clean and green), and Matt Swartz's arb estimates are presented by Steve Adams. The Bucs have six guys eligible, and none are big-ticket guys.
Endy Rodriguez - 2021 Topps Inception
  • MLB Pipeline's Jim Callis, Sam Dykstra & Jonathan Mayo have selected their hitting and pitching Prospects of the Year for each team. The Buc babes were C Endy Rodriguez and RHP Mike Burrows.
  • If you like to cry in your beer, Tim Benz of the Trib has all the "freaky" things that came together to form the perfect storm we know as the Sid Bream game in 1992's NLCS championship.
  • Offseason dates to circle:
    1. On the day after the World Series ends, free agents are dropped from the 40-man roster (teams have an exclusive five-day negotiating window with its FAs). Also, players on the 60-day IL and Restricted List that are under team control return to the 40-man roster.
    2. November 18th - Rule 5 eligible players have to be added to the 40-man roster.
    3. December 2nd - The tender deadline, when teams have the option of offering a 2023 contract to players under team control (arb-eligible and pre-arb), or not.
    4. December 4th - The week-long winter meetings in San Diego.
    5. December 7th - The Rule 5 Draft.
