Notes: Hill, Garcia on Roster; Wilson Off; News & Moves...

We'll take a cup o' kindness yet for auld lang syne...

Notes:

  • LHP Rich Hill and the Pirates have agreed on a one-year/$8M deal. Hill is an 18-year MLB vet (He'll turn 43 in March) who pitched for Boston last year with an 8-7/4.27 slash in 26 starts. It certainly checks off the FO wish list's experienced lefty starter box...
  • LHP Jarlin Garcia has officially signed his agreement for one-year/$2.5M with a club option for 2024 at $3.25M, sealing the deal that was made back during the winter meetings. Bryse Wilson was DFA'ed after slashing 3-9/5.52 last season to clear a 40-man spot.
  • MLB.com had its local beat writers pick out the likeliest player to break out in 2023 by club. For the Pirates, Justice delos Santos went with the peoples choice, Oneil Cruz.
Cutch - 2018 Topps Opening Day
  • Simon Hampton of MLB Trade Rumors takes a look at Cutch, who is still looking for a 2023 gig.
  • IF Kevin Padlo, 26, who spent 2022 with the Giants, Mariners and Pirates, has signed a minor league deal to start his 2023 journey with the Angels. He hit .121 in 33 ABs for his three '22 clubs. The Halos also signed 28-year-old C Jose Godoy (.059/2021-22 MLB) and 29-year-old LHP Cam Vieaux (eight outings/10.38 ERA). For Godoy, it's his fifth club - Mariners,  Giants, Twins, and Pirates - since last season while it's Cam's first org outside of Pittsburgh.
  • OF Gregory Polanco is stayin' in Japan. The 31-year-old hit .240 with 24 homers for Yomiuri last year and just signed with Chiba Lotte for the 2023 campaign. El Coffee left the Bucs after the 2021 season.
  • RHP Jordan Lyles, 32, who pitched for the Bucs in 2019, signed a two-year/$17M agreement with the KC Royals. His 2022 slash was 12-11/4.42 with the Orioles.
  • RHP Nick Mears, claimed from the Bucs by the Rangers on 12/23, was DFA'ed by them on 12/27.
