Notes: Arb Class Signed; NRIs Announced; Ex-Bucs On the Move

Tick, tick, tick...

Notes:

  • RHP JT Brubaker avoided arb and agreed on a $2.275M contract for 2024, the same salary he collected during his out-of-action ‘23 season. Brubaker, 30, had claimed a spot in the 2022 rotation, but had TJ surgery early in the following campaign and isn’t expected to return to the hill until sometime around the ‘24 All-Star break. The next day, they closed out the arb class by inking closer David Bednar ($4.51M), RHP Mitch Keller ($5.4425M), OF Edward Olivares ($1.35M) and Swiss Army knife Connor Joe ($2.125M). The FO was thought (hoped?) to be talking longer-term deals with Bednar and Keller, so whether their signings are place-holders or wait til next year figures (other than Brubaker's salary, the other guys got big jumps in pay) are TBD.

  • The Pirates announced eight non-roster invitees to camp: INF Sergio Alcantara, OF Gilberto Celestino, RHP Ben Heller, UT Jake Lamb, OF Billy McKinney, LHP Michael Plassmeyer, RHP Ryder Ryan & RHP Hunter Stratton.
  • The Mets claimed RHP Max Kranick off waivers after he had been DFA'ed last week to clear 40-man space for LHP Martín Pérez. Max had TJ surgery in '22 and only got into nine knock-the-rust-off outings last year.
  • IF Diego Castillo was traded from the Bucs to the D-Backs in the '22 off season, then DFA'ed by Arizona after '23 campaign in early January and claimed by the Mets, just to be DFA'ed by NY less than a week later.
  • RHP Andre Jackson, who Pittsburgh DFA'ed by mutual agreement so as to allow him to pursue a pitching gig in Japan, signed with Yokohama.
