Trent Rosencrans of CBS Sports has put together a series where he examines the lineups of teams if they would have kept their home-grown players together. His Pirate lineup is below, and this link takes you to the complete roster.
1. Andrew McCutchen, CF
2. Neil Walker, 2B
3. Jose Bautista, RF
4. Aramis Ramirez, 3B
5. Ryan Doumit, 1B
6. Jeff Keppinger, SS
7. Ronny Paulino, C
8. Nyjer Morgan, LF
We're not real sure that he ever saw Dewey play first, but hey...either him or Brad "Big Country" Eldred, right? And Nyjmo?

That's not a bad lineup, ya know? Just goes to show you that even bad teams do develop some talent. Usually, their problem is that they never have enough of their homegrown talent on hand at the same time in order to really do something. The Arizona Cardinals of the NFL were the same way for many years. Roy Green and Stump Mitchell, among others, could play for anybody. But they were usually the only light in the darkness in any given season. Same pattern in Pittsburgh with the Pirates. Interesting to see all those names, though, and what the best homegrown lineup over the past decade would have looked like.
