This series started a nine game Central division stretch of contests for the Brewers against the teams ahead of them, the Bucs, Cards and Reds. If they can get it going, Milwaukee is back in the hunt; if not, probably time to start selling with the deadline approaching. Tonight's game starts at 7:10 and will be shown on Root Sports.
The lineup: Drew Sutton LF, Neil Walker 2B, Andrew McCutchen CF, Garrett Jones RF, Casey McGehee 1B, Pedro Alvarez 3B, Mike McKenry C, Clint Barmes SS, Kevin Correia P.
The Fort is catching tonight; that way Hot Rod Barajas can stay teamed with AJ Burnett tomorrow. Otherwise, same ol', at least until Alex Presley gets back.
- The Brewers are on a roll; they've won 7-of-10. The Bucs aren't exactly slackers; they've won 10-of-13.
- Pedro Alvarez established a new career-high with his 17th homer Friday.
- Since June, Pittsburgh leads the Majors in runs scored (205) and slugging percentage (.483), rank second in batting average (.282), third in doubles (72) & home runs (54) and a surprising fourth in OBP (.338).
- Today is the anniversary of the famous 1974 game against the Reds that erupted into a donnybrook highlighted by Cincy reliever Pedro Borbon biting Pirate pitcher Daryl Patterson. Patterson got a tetanus shot after the chomp, just in case Borbon was rabid.
