A couple of late changes were announced this afternoon for the Pirates. First, RHP James McDonald was placed on the 15 day DL, retroactive to April 30th after experiencing shoulder discomfort prior to the game. With his lost of velocity this year, the move isn't entirely a surprise; but like Neil Walker, the club again carried an injured guy to the detriment of the bench. Jeanmar Gomez will pick up tonight's start for him.
To take his place on the roster, Josh Harrison was recalled from Indy, where he was hitting .293 after being sent down earlier in the year with a .125 BA for Pittsburgh. The Pirates will have an extra man on the bench for a couple of days until Francisco Liriano joins them for the weekend series against the Mets.
The Pirates also scratched Russell Martin from the lineup with a stiff neck, which is a day-to-day move rather than anything long term. John McDonald and Brandon Inge would serve as emergency catchers behind Mike McKenry.
Tonight's new lineup: LF Starling Marte, RF Travis Snider, CF Andrew McCutchen, 1B Garrett Jones, C Mike McKenry, 3B Pedro Alvarez, 2B Jordy Mercer, SS Clint Barmes and P Jeanmar Gomez.
