Frankie v Jungmann; Lineup (Cutch is Back) & Notes

Today's Game - Francisco Liriano (3-4, 3.24) goes against righty Taylor Jungmann, who was called up yesterday to make his MLB debut in Pittsburgh. He replaces Wily Peralta, who is out with a rib cage injury.

Frankie's been a roll. He's struck out 29 batters in his last three starts (19 IP) and more importantly, he's gone 2-0 with a 0.95 ERA over that span. He's been pretty so-so against the Brew Crew, posting a lifetime 6-4/4.14 in 13 games. Liriano has also been inexplicably bad at home this year with a 1-3 record and 6.04 ERA.

Jungmann was the 12th overall pick of the 2011 draft, but his numbers looked sad at Colorado Springs of the hitter's heaven PCL this season - Jungmann posted a 2-3 mark with a 6.37 ERA, tho his peripherals of 8.2 K/9 and 1.86 K/BB rate are pretty good. With a fastball/curve combo, Jungmann's biggest issue has been his command, keeping his good (lo 90s) but not overpowering heater down. At 6'6", he has plenty of downward plane if he can spot it at the knees. The game is supposed to rain-free and begins at 7:05, carried by Root Sports and 93.7 The Fan.

Today's Lineup - Josh Harrison 3B, Gregory Polanco RF, Cutch CF, Neil Walker 2B, Starling Marte LF, Pedro 1B, Fran Cervelli C, Jordy Mercer SS, Liriano P.

Back to the tried and true lineup. Good to see Cutch penciled in after a day off. he takes a blow and the Buccos get shutout, hmmm...

  • Jordy enters tonight with a seven game hitting streak.
  • Mark the Shark has converted a career-high 16 straight save opportunities and 18-of-19 overall this season. He's also picked up a save in nine consecutive games, one shy of the club record held by Salomon Torres (2006) and Mike Williams (2002).
  • The South Atlantic (Sally) League All-Star team has three WV Power reps - RHP Yeudy Garcia (4-3/1.91), RHP Junior Lopez (4-0/0.81) & OF Elvis Escobar (.292).
  • The Draft continues today with rounds 3-10 this afternoon, with the final rounds (11-40) on Wednesday. The Pirates pick nineteenth in each round.
