Wednesday: Jeff Locke v. Jaime Garcia, Lineup, Notes

Tonight: The game opens at 8:15 and will be aired by Root Sports and 93.7 The Fan as the Pirates go for their third win of the series tonight.

Pitchers: Jeff Locke (8-5, 5.13) v. Jaime Garcia (6-6, 3.84). Jeff has won seven of his last nine starts and his eight victories are a team high. His 16 starts and 94-2/3 IP are both second on the team, behind Jon Niese. His only gig this year against the Cards was meh; he went six IP and gave up three runs in early May. Overall, he's 1-3/4.50 ERA in five starts at Busch Stadium. Garcia has been fairly consistent at the Redbirds back end. He hasn't faced the Bucs this year yet, but is coming off a strong performance against Milwaukee. His last outing against the Pirates was in 2015, when he shut them out over seven frames on four hits.

Lineup: Jordy SS, Freeser 1B, Cutch CF, JHK 3B, Starling LF, Josh 2B, S-Rod RF, Erik Kratz C, Locke P. Gregory gets a blow, ditto for JJ against the portsider Garcia.

  • To bolster the pen, Kyle Lobstein was recalled & Steven Brault sent back to Indy.
  • The Bucs are on a 9-2 roll with a six game winning streak.
  • Buster Olney tweets that Tyler Glasnow will be called up to work tomorrow, his regularly scheduled day. With that, he will become the Pirates 11th different starter and the fifth member of Indy's rotation (Boscan, Taillon, Kuhl, Brault) to make his MLB debut in 2016. Three position players - Alen Hansen, Jacob Stallings and Adam Frazier - have also taken their maiden MLB voyage this year, with at least Josh Bell almost certain to join them.
  • Jon Niese is getting a balky knee examined; the results of the poking and probing will be the deciding factor in the rotation v the Cubs before the ASB. Edit - looks like he passed; he's slated to go Sunday.
  • Another Card move - C Brayan Pena went on the DL with left knee inflammation, and Alberto Rosario joieds the team from Memphis.
  • Fun Fact: 132 Altoona Curve players have reached the majors. Tomorrow, Tyler Glasnow will make it 133.
  • The Marlins and LHP Cory Luebke are in agreement on a minor league contract, per MLB Trade Rumors. He was recently DFA'ed and then released by the Pirates.
  • Here's the All-Star rosters.
