Notes: CBA, MiLB Suit, Prospect List, Etc.

Spring training, hah...

Notes:

  • Kiley McDaniel's ESPN Top 100 Prospects (behind a pay wall) include six by-now familiar Buc youngsters: SS Oneil Cruz (13th), C Henry Davis (39th), SS Liover Peguero (53rd), 2B Nick Gonzales (70th), RHP Roansy Contreras (76th) and RHP Quinn Priester (77th).

  • LHP Oddy Nunez (2-1/8.32), who pitched for Altoona last year, signed with the Frontier League Tri-City Valley Cats. He's also logged time in the Latin winter leagues.
  • For the game goers, should there be some contests played this season at PNC: The Roberto Clemente (Sixth Street) Bridge is now officially closed until December, 2023, while it undergoes rehabilitation.
  • One item that missed the radar last week was MLB's ask to be able to adjust the minor league roster limit over the life of the CBA per Jeff Passan of ESPN. It's currently at 180 players, with up to 70 more for clubs that have two Dominican teams, with the assumption that it would eventually be lowered or used as a chip. It ties into both MLB's cost-cutting agenda and its ongoing court case with farm players seeking better compensation and conditions.
  • After a 15 minute session that seemed to muddle rather than resolve issues on Thursday, MLB and MLBPA are scheduled to meet daily beginning on Monday. MLB has pushed camp games back to March 5th at the earliest; if you're keeping track, pitchers and catchers were supposed to have reported already with games due to start on the 26th.
