And now the offseason begins...
Notes:
- Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com has the lowdown on MLB roster decision deadlines now that the Series has ended.
- Jason Mackey of the Post Gazette reports his sources say Mendy Lopez, minor league batting mentor, will be promoted to the big team, job title not yet determined and as an addition, not replacement, to the staff. (Jason had the story right; the Pirates later confirmed the move.)
- 3B Ke'Bryan Hayes, who had baseball's best DRS (Defensive Runs Saved) of 24, couldn't slip past the Cards' Nolan Arenado (his DRS was 19, not up to Key's work but still a very good #) in the Golden Glove Award race. Arenado's victory tied him with Ichiro for most consecutive GGs to begin a MLB career. His 10 Gold Gloves also tied him with Mike Schmidt for second-most all-time by a third baseman. Brooks Robinson with 16 is the top cat. Arenado had earlier claimed the '22 Fielding Bible award, dethroning Ke'Bryan, who taken that honor in 2021.

- Pirates pups RHP Quinn Priester, C Henry Davis and 2B Nick Gonzales were named to Arizona Fall League's Sunday Fall Star Game, with the NL taking a 9-3 win. Gonzales went 1-for-2 with a gapper double, whiff and RBI. Preister and Davis didn't get in; Davis had a wrist injury that flared up and Priester pitched on Friday.
- Ex-Buc and current Rox RHP Chad Kuhl was inducted into the University of Delaware Hall of Fame this week.
- OF Starling Marte underwent surgery to repair a "core muscle injury." His recovery time is expected to be eight weeks, so he should be ready to go by camp for the Mets.
- LA Dodgers 3B Justin Turner won this year's Clemente Award.
- Houston won the World Series, 4-games-to-2, by sweeping the final three contests v Philly. Dusty Baker finally got his ring as a skipper on his third try and became one of the few to take the title both as a player and manager.
