Notes: Quiet Week - Andujar NRI, Prospects Rated, Winter Warm Up, Josh & Roberto Sign

Cutch and Camp Around the Corner...

Notes:

  • OF/3B Miguel Andujar has cleared waivers (he was DFA'ed to clear 40-man space for Cutch), was outrighted to Indy and will be a NRI to camp. He's got a guaranteed contract for $1.525M and that made it likely for him to stay with the organization at least short-term for a couple of financial reasons.
  • The suits banged PiratesFest this year, but they did hold a "Winter Warm Up" event for season ticket holders at PNC Park that drew 1,900 fans and featured Cutch & Mitch Keller.

  • Prospect Projections: The Pirates have three players in Baseball Prospectus' Top 100  (behind a paywall) #31-IF Temarr Johnson, #46-C Henry Davis and #55-C/OF Endy Rodriguez. BP had five Pirate pups listed last year: RHP Roansy Contreras, SS Oneil Cruz, Davis, 2B Nick Gonzales and IF Liover Peguero. Cruz/Contreras should break camp with the big team, Davis repeated and Peguero/Gonzales have lost some luster this season.
  • MLB Pipeline's Top 100 include four Pittsburgh young 'uns: #26 Johnson, #55 Rodriguez, #57 Davis and #60 Quinn Priester. They also listed prospects by position, and the Pirates have two of the Top 10 at 2B. Temarr Johnson is rated #1 and Nick Gonzales is ranked at #8. Among catchers, Endy Rodriguez and Henry Davis come in at #6 & #7. The other positions are bare of Bucco babes.
  • Josh Harrison will not rejoin Cutch at PNC Park. The 35-year-old Swiss Army knife inked a one-year/$2M deal with the Phils.
  • The Giants reportedly signed last year's Bucco replacement for C Jake Stallings, Roberto Perez. The 34-year-old good glove guy with a history of injuries was limited to 21 games with the Pirates due to hammy surgery last year. He joins Blake Sabol, who Pittsburgh lost to San Fran in the Rule 5 Draft,  behind the dish.
