Heredia Signs

While the bad news continues to pile up on the major league front, the minor league pipeline continues to fill. Dejan Kovacevic of the Post Gazette reports that the Pirates signed 16 year Mexican RHP Luis Heredia for a Bucco Latino record bonus of $2.6M.

Bob Nutting may be compared to Ebenezor Scrooge at the MLB level, but he's Daddy Warbucks with the Kiddie Korps.

El Nino throws in the low nineties already, and his heater moves three different ways. Chino Valdez, Mexican scouting coordinator, and Rene Gayo have been on the 6'6" hurler since he was five, and unlike the sad Sano affair, the relationship paid off this time.

He's so good that the Pittsburgh suits are considering starting him at Bradenton rather than the Dominican Academy, a rarity for someone of such tender years and a sure sign that he's on the fast track.

Now if the Pirates can just hold on to their position players long enough for the pitching to catch up - Heredia, Taillon, Allie, Von Rosenberg, Cain, Dodson, Owens, Morris, Locke, Wilson and some others - you just may need sunglasses for the future.
