--Kevin Correia will take on Clayton Richard this afternoon (California afternoon, that is). The game will start at 6:35 PM and be shown on Root Sports.
-- The lineup: Andrew McCutchen CF, Xavier Paul LF, Matt Diaz RF, Neil Walker 2B, Steve Pearce 1B, Ryan Doumit C, Brandon Wood 3B, Ronny Cedeno SS, Kevin Correia P.
Jose Tabata and Pedro Alvarez are out because of injury; Lyle Overbay is getting a day off.
-- Both Alvarez (tight quad) and Tabata (tight hamstring) could be back for Friday's homestand against the Astros. Today is a get-away game, and the Pirates are off tomorrow, giving them a couple of days to loosen up.
-- Jared MacDonald of The Good Point blog has posted an interview with McCutch, and it starts out with "If it was up to Andrew McCutchen, he'd be in a Pittsburgh Pirates uniform for his entire career..."
-- The Pirates have won 10 games on the road this season. Last year, the team didn't collect its tenth road victory until June 28th. Now if they can just find some PNC mojo...
-- BTW, when Heath Bell polished off the Bucs last night, it marked the 41st straight save opportunity that he's converted, tying a San Diego club record held by Trevor Hoffman.
-- John Bowker has cleared waivers and has been assigned to Indy.
-- Leonys Martin, 23 year old Cuban OF'er, has signed with the Rangers for 5-years and $15.5M, including a $5M signing bonus. Oh, and it also cost an ex-Bucco farmhand, Ramon Aguero, his Lone Star gig, too. Texas DFA'ed him to clear room for Martin on the 40-man roster.
