The Lineup: Alex Presley LF, Chase d'Arnaud SS, Garrett Jones RF, Andrew McCutchen CF, Neil Walker 2b, Lyle Overbay 1b , Brandon Wood 3b, Mike McKenry C, James McDonald P.
Walker is back in the saddle; Ronny Cedeno gets the first game off, so d'Arnaud gets his first start at short and Wood mans the hot corner. McCutch is cleanup again; seems to be his regular spot when Jones is in the lineup.
And the Bucs' FO is in CIA mode again; they still haven't officially announced Brad Lincoln's call-up and who's been sent down to clear his spot. They're probably just waiting 'til the first game is over to keep Wood available for bullpen duty.
- If you're wondering why Luis Silverio is coaching third base and Mark Strittmatter is at first, it's because the usual hot corner arm waver Nick Leyva has a lower back problem that will limit him to bench duty during the Washington series.
- Yesterday was manager Davey Johnson's first Nat win since taking over from Jim Riggleman. He had been 0-3.
- Ben Badler of Baseball America reports that "The Pirates have agreed to terms with Colombian outfielder Harold Ramirez for $1.05 million." The 16 year old has plus speed and projects as a corner outfielder. His bonus is the second largest ever doled out by the Bucs for a Latino prospect, behind only Luis Heredia's $2.6M.
