Garrett Jones lost out to a potential $5M+ payday, Mike McKenry lost out to Chris Stewart, and all the other arb-eligible Bucs were tendered contracts by last night's midnight deadline.
Travis Snider, who was the most likely to join Jones and The Fort, made it through the process, which probably says more about a confused right field/first base situation than it does his performance. The rest of the eligible guys - Neil Walker, Pedro Alvarez, Mark Melancon, Charlie Morton, Gaby Sanchez and Vin Mazzaro - were, as expected, offered deals.
The payroll hit is just north of $20M. The Bucs have six guys - Wandy Rodriguez, Cutch, Russ Martin, Jason Grilli, Jose Tabata and Stewart - under contract for roughly $33M out-of-pocket. So the team - and its payroll - begins to take shape.
