Volquez, Lynn, Lineup w/oCutch, The Kid, Wandy, Grilli, Worley

Lance Lynn (4-1, 3.51 ERA) climbs the bump opposite Edinson Volquez (1-3, 4.19 ERA) tonight. Lynn has a fastball that occasionally sits at 95, and he also throws a sinker, cutter and curve. His two points to attack are that he's pretty much a six-inning guy and has trouble against lefties, so we'll see if the Bucs can exploit those holes. Volquez started off ablaze, but has returned to earth, so the Pirates are looking for some consistency from his performances.

The lineup: Jose Tabata LF, Josh Harrison RF, Neil walker 2B, Pedro 3B, Starling Marte CF, Ike Davis 1B, Tony Sanchez C, Jordy Mercer SS and Volquez. No Cutch; not sure what's up with that, tho it's likely that he has a bruised leg/foot from last night and is just a bit beat up. They're down a man already as Travis Snider is serving the second day of his suspension..

The game starts at 7:05 and will be aired by Root Sports and 93.7 The Fan. We'll see if they get it in; there are storms in the forecast through at least the early evening.
  • Neil Walker leads all MLB second basemen with 22 RBI. In addition, his seven home runs rank second to Minnesota’s Brian Dozier (eight) and his .463 slugging percentage ranks second to Philadelphia’s Chase Utley (.545) among second basemen.
  • Wandy Rodriguez is expected to come off the DL and start Thursday against the Brewers, even after a couple of subpar starts during rehab. He's planning on one more bullpen session before the move is finalized.
  • Jason Grilli threw from a mound Friday for the first time since April 21st.
  • Ryan Polencer of Pirates Prospects reports that the Bucs picked up Vance Worley as more than an afterthought.
  • One-time Pirate farmhand Tyler Gaffney, who returned to Stanford to play RB, was taken by Carolina with pick 204 in the 6th round of the NFL draft.
  • Ex-Bucs: The Angels' Sean Burnett (elbow) will begin his rehab assignment today.
