Liriano v Stults, Lineup, Streaks...

Francisco Liriano (3-7, 3.91) takes on lefty Eric Stults (4-13, 4.94) tonight.

Frankie has made four starts since being reinstated from the DL and has gone 2-1 with a 2.17 ERA in 29 IP. He's been stingy with runs, but unfortunately, so have his teammates. Liriano has received more than two runs of support when he's been in the game just four times in his first 19 starts.

He's 1-1 with a 2.37 ERA in three career starts against the Friars. In his only outing against them this year, he dropped a 3-2 decision to Ian Kennedy at Petco Park.

Stults has struggled on the road in 2014 with a 0-9 record and 5.78 ERA in 12 starts. The 34-year-old has a strikeout rate of under six batters per nine innings, opponent BA of .299 and he's allowed 1.5 home runs per nine to go with a 1.43 WHIP, and that's music to the ears of a depleted but game Bucco lineup.

He's faced the Bucs once, winning 5-2 in 2013 at PNC Park, but gave up seven hits in his five innings of work.

The lineup: Josh Harrison LF, Jordy Mercer SS, Russ Martin C, Gaby Sanchez 1B, Starling Marte CF, Gregory Polanco RF, Jayson Nix 3B, Michael Martinez 2B and Liriano P. Who needs a bench?

The game starts at 7:05 and will be aired by Root Sports and 93.7 The Fan.
  • Josh Harrison brings a 12 game hitting streak and Russ Martin one of seven games into tonight's action.
  • Pittsburgh (62-53) is 37-22 at home, the best mark in the NL. The Padres are 21-35 away from Petco.
  • A win tonight would give the Pirates their seventh straight series win at PNC Park. Overall at home this season, the Pirates have gone 13-4-1 in their first 18 series. The Pirats, btw, have never taken a series from San Diego at PNC Park.
