Eddie's coming off a bit of a rough outing against the Rox, but he has been pretty steady in the back end of the order so far this year, going 7-4 in his last 14 starts. He's 2-2 with a 3.86 ERA in nine lifetime starts against the Snakes, but is just 1-1 with a 4.94 ERA in four starts at Chase Field
It'll be interesting to see if Volquez, with his swing-and-miss arsenal, will end up in the pen when Gerrit Cole comes back. That could be soon; Cole goes tomorrow night at Indy, so he could be ready to go on the 7th.
Nuno joined Arizona in early July when the D-Backs sent Brandon McCarthy to the Pinstripers. He has four and two-seam fastballs and mixes in a curveball, changeup, cutter and slider, so he can show a lot of pitches.
The lefty is 0-2 as a Snake, but has a 3.47 ERA that would be a lot shinier if he hadn't given up four homers in 23-1/3 IP. His control is pretty good, he averages about eighth whiffs per game, and his WHIP in the NL is 1.114, so he's liking the Senior Circuit so far. He'll also become the ninth lefty the Bucs will face in the first 14 games out of the break.
The lineup: Josh Harrison LF, Jordy Mercer SS, Cutch CF, Gaby Sanchez 1B, Neil Walker 2B, Russ Martin C, Gregory Polanco RF, Brent Morel 3B and Volquez P. Pedro is down again and Jordy is hitting out of the two hole.
The game begins at 9:40 and will be aired by Root Sports and 93.7 The Fan.
- Edinson Volquez leads the Pirates with eight wins this season after winning nine games with the Padres all of last season.
