Bucs/Braves Close It Out, Kingham v Teheran, Lineup & Notes

Today: The finale is at 5:05 with AT&T SportsNet & 93.7 The Fan airing the contest.

Pitchers: RHP Nick Kingham (5-6, 4.92) tosses against Julio Teheran (9-7, 4.18). Nick replaces Ivan Nova, who is away from the team on unspecified personal business. Nick has been the yo-yo sixth starter for the Pirates this year, and taken a roller-coaster ride during his 12 starts. He's in his final option year, so September should be a key month for him to make a case for 2019. This will be his first turn against Atlanta. Teheran is also inconsistent; in six of of 26 starts, he's given up a run or less; in six others, he's been banged for four or more. He was on against the Bucs in his most recent late-August outing, giving up a run on two hits with five K in seven innings of work.

Lineup: Starling Marte CF, Adam Frazier LF, Gregory Polanco RF, Josh Bell 1B, Colin Moran 3B,Jordy Mercer SS, Kevin Newman 2B, Jake Stallings C & Kingham P. A couple of pups made the lineup...

Notes:
  • Starling comes into the game with an eight-game  hit streak.
  • Last night, the Pirates lost for just the second time all season (55-2) when leading after seven innings. Pittsburgh’s two losses when leading after seven innings are the second-fewest in all of MLB; Oakland is the only team that has yet to lose (57-0) when leading after seven innings this season.
  • Tomorrow afternoon, the Pirates will begin a three-game series against the Reds as part of a six-game home stand. Following an off day on Thursday, the Pirates will close out the quick home pit stop with a three game set against the Marlins. 19 of Pittsburgh’s final 25 games will be against teams from the Central Division.
  • Will Craig drove in his 100th run for Altoona last night; he' the only Curve player other than Adam Hyzdu (106 RBI - 2000) to chase home 100 or more runs in a single season.
  • LHP Stephen Tarpley, 25, got a call up from the Yankees; he was one of the players sent to NY for Ivan Nova.
