Searage, Prince Dismissed

Uncle Ray Searage and Tom Prince, Clint's right hand man as bench coach, were let go today.

Ray Searage, 64, was the pitching coach during Clint's tenure after joining the team in 2010 as the interim PC. He took the brunt of what seems to be a systematic breakdown in analytics; the Pirates organization thought there was a long shelf life for concepts instead of a constantly churning sea of change. His release was not unexpected.

Prince, 55, was more of a surprise. He's spent 26 years in the Bucco organization and was thought to be a popular figure among the players. It's likely that he was just too associated with the old team culture and the FO wanted a break from the old school. He does have 11 years of minor league skippering under his belt.

A Pirates press release said: “All other Major League coaches are candidates to remain on the big league staff pending the conclusion of the managerial and coaching staff hiring process.”

That means that Joey Cora, third-base coach, hitting coaches Rick Eckstein & Jacob Cruz, first base coach Kimera Bartee, general assignment coach Dave Jauss, and assistant pitching coach Justin Meccage will return for now, along with the bullpen guys Euclides Rojas, Heberto Andrade and Jordan Comadena.

Our guess is that unless Jeff Banister gets the manager's job, most of them will join Searage and Prince knocking on doors.
