News & Notes: Jamo A Go Go; Hudson For Depth; Minor League Plaudits; Old Guys Move On; No New HoF'ers

And another one bites the dust:
  • And the hammer again clanged as the Bucs sent RHP Jameson Taillon to the Yankees for RHP Miguel Yajure, 22; RHP Roansy Contreras, 21; INF Maikel Escotto, 18; and OF/1B Canaan Smith, 21. None were considered to be one of NY's Top 10 Prospects (They joined Pittsburgh's MLB Pipeline Prospect list at #14, #19, #26 and UR), although Yajure is thought to be a potential 2021 contributor. Most raters liked the haul; here's Fangraph's scouting report on the newbies. To clear space on the 40-man roster, the Pirates DFA'd recently acquired OF Troy Stokes Jr.

  • The Bucs and C Joe Hudson, 29, agreed to a minor league contract with an invitation to big league camp. He's a depth guy with limited MLB experience who played with Seattle last season.
  • Depth in the minors is starting to show up - Mike Rosenbaum of MLB Pipeline has Ke'Bryan Hayes as the #2 3B Prospect while Jim Callas of has two Bucco babes, Nick Gonzalez (#2) and Ji-Hwan Bae (#9), in the Pipeline Prospect Top 10 for 2B.
  •  LHP Derek Holland, 34, signed a minor league deal with the Tigers. He went 1-3/6.86 with Pittsburgh last year, with his time (12 outings, 40-2/3 IP) split between starting and bullpen work.
  • The Phils inked RHP Ivan Nova, 34, to a minor-league seal with a camp invite. He was with Detroit last year and will compete as a back ender/insurance policy guy.
  • Hmmmm...no one was voted into the Hall of Fame in 2021. It was just the fourth time in 60 years that no one made the cut.
