Weekend Notes: Keller, Park, Wilson Join Team; Kellington Signs; Moves & Stuff...

Back to normal, whatever that is...

Notes:

  • IF/OF Hoy Jun Park and RHP Bryse Wilson were added to the big league roster while OF Jared Oliva was optioned to Indy.
  • With Ric Rod gone, Shelty says he's going to the "closer-by-committee" scheme.
  • Dating back to 1920, only Jason Kendall (eight) has authored more career walk off wins as a Pittsburgh catcher than Jake Stallings, who iced Saturday's victory with his seventh walk off. He's in a second-place tie with Manny Sanguillen.

  • The Pirates blew their eight closing-game chance to sweep a series on Sunday; they are the only MLB team to not sweep a set this season. However, all wasn't lost: Hoy Park doubled for his first big league hit (in his second MLB at bat) and Big John Nogowski made his third appearance on the bump as a Bucco.
  • The attendance at PNC Park on Saturday night was a season-high 32,071.
  • IF Erik Gonzalez began a rehab assignment at Indy on Saturday. He was HBP and taken out of the game, with no word yet on whether that will affect his Pirates ETA.
  • C Abrahan GutiĆ©rrez, acquired from the Phils, was sent to Low-A Bradenton.
  • 2B Dee Strange-Gordon, 33, has opted for free agency from Indy; the influx of young infielders coming in at the trade deadline was sufficient writing on the wall for the vet. The Pirates were the third system he played for this season alone; the two-time All Star had only suited up for three other organizations in his 13 years prior to this campaign..
  • Pittsburgh's fourth round selection, Vermont prep RHP Owen Kellington, signed for $600K (slot value was $571,400), getting the max the Bucs could spend, including the 5% overage allowance. Pittsburgh has inked 19 of their 21 picks and used their entire bonus pool amount +, nearly $16M in all.
  • RHP Kyle Crick was signed by the White Sox and assigned to AAA.
  • RHP Trevor Williams was part of the Javy Baez trade with the Mets; NY sent him to their AAA club.
