Week's Notes: MASH Gang Returning, Guys On The Move, Odds & Ends

Yada...

Notes:

  • Jason Mackey of the PG wrote that his sources say that ex-Angel LHP Dillon Peters will be called up this weekend. Saturday is a twin bill while Sunday's moundsman against the Brewers is TBA, so Peters could get a call for either day. Long relief is another possibility as he was a swingman at Indy.
  • IF/OF Hoy Park hit his first MLB dinger on Tuesday night; it was the only hit the Pirates had against the Cards' JA Happ in his six-inning stint. Happ (who pitched for Pittsburgh in 2015) faced his old mateys earlier in the year as a Twin, and spun a 7-1/3 IP one-hit shutout, so he's had the Buccos number this season. Actually, he's had it just about every season; he's 6-3/2.54 (12 starts) against Pittsburgh in his 15-year career.
  • Gregory Polanco had been successful on 13 straight stolen base attempts this season before being caught on Thursday by Card C Andrew Knizner. The Pirates single season record for most stolen base attempts without being caught remains the bragging rights of Miguel Dilone (12 in 1977).
  • Pittsburgh has lost eight straight games and 10 of the last 11. St. Louis has won 10 consecutive contests at PNC Park after this week's sweep. As an added burn, after 349 starts in 16 seasons, Adam Wainwright finally tossed his first Maddux (shutout < 100 pitches) on Wednesday against the Bucs.

  • Neil Walker was scheduled as an analyst for AT&T SportsNet on Friday night before the game was rained out. He's slated to do some more TV and radio work during the final weeks of the season.
  • LHP Sam Howard (R knee tendinitis) is tossing BP; looks like he should be back shortly.
  • OF Ben Gamel (hamstring) is expected to come off the IL next week.
  • OF Ka’ai Tom began his rehab assignment in Indy on Tuesday. IF Erik Gonzalez cleared waivers and was outrighted to Indy.
  • RHP Miguel Yajure had no issues after his first rehab outing in Bradenton. He'll get another start there and then should be bumped up a competitive level or two next week.
  • First round pick C Henry Davis was promoted from the Rookie League to Hi-A Greensboro.
  • Prepster overdraft SS/RHP Bubba Chandler joined the Rookie League Bucs.
  • The Marlins signed recently released OF Dustin Fowler to a minor league contract.
  • RHP AJ Schugel was released by the Mets. His last two MLB seasons were 2016-17 in Pittsburgh when he went 6-2-1/3.00. In 2018, he hurt his shoulder, was let go by the Bucs and then bounced around some before landing in the NY system.
