Home again:
Notes:
- The Pirates had a 16-game losing streak against the Dodgers, dating back to 2018. Bucco starting pitchers had gone 27 straight games to open the year w/o a win, the longest such stretch in MLB history. Both streaks ended on Monday as the Pirates beat LA, 5-1, giving LHP Jose Quintana his first MLB win since 2019. The cherry on top - Jack Suwinski hit his first MLB home run. The Bucs, against all odds, took 2-of-3 from the City of Angels. It was the first time they've taken a set from LA since 2016. They then split a four-gamer with the Reds, winning the last match while being no-hit; three walks and a barely beat-out potential DP bouncer in the eighth inning was the only run scored Sunday. It was the sixth time in post-1901 MLB history that a team won while being no hit.
- If it weren't for bad luck...Jose Quintana is just 1-1 on the year despite the Pirates winning five of his last six starts.

- The Pirates claimed RHP Tyler Beede from San Francisco and DFA'ed RHP Beau Sulser to clear 40-man space, then optioned Cam Alldred back to Indy to make an active spot available.. Beede, 28, was a starter converted to the pen at San Fran. In four seasons, the former first-rounder slashed 5-11/5.39. He's another "electric stuff, erratic command" guy.
- Utilityman Rodolfo Castro was recalled from Indy; Tucker Cole was optioned to AAA to see if he can find his stroke.
- OF Jake Marisnick injured his thumb making a diving catch on Monday and was placed on the 10-day IL with UCL damage that will require surgery with an estimated 4-6 weeks absence. RHP Max Kranick was recalled to take Jake's spot on the roster. Then Max was optioned back to Indy later in the week when the Bucs got RHP Duane Underwood Jr. back from the IL.
- LHP Cam Alldred was called up from Indy. Beau Sulser was optioned back to AAA (days later to be DFA'ed and claimed by Baltimore) and C Roberto Perez was switched from the 10-day to 60-day IL. Unfortunately, that wasn't a surprise; hammy injuries are especially problematic for catchers. Cam wasn't listed among the Top 30 Pirate Prospects, but the 25-year-old has been strong at Indy over the past two seasons in small samples and pitched a scoreless frame in his debut, giving up a hit and fanning a batter. He was optioned back shortly thereafter to make room for Tyler Beede.
- LHP Sam Howard was claimed by the Detroit Tigers; he was DFA'ed when the Pirates called up C Michael Perez. Motown optioned him to AAA Toledo.
- Travis Swaggerty is back in action; he was recalled to Indy from the 7-day minor league IL after a concussion scare.

- It hasn't been officially announced, but MLB Trade Rumors' Darragh McDonald reports that Jason Kendall is taking a position in Bucco player development as a roving coach at the minor league level.
- During the Monday game, it was Bucs and Pucks night at PNC Park as the Pirates vid showed the Penguin's playoff game up the street at PPG Paints Arena simultaneously with the ballgame. Both won, making it a good night for Pittsburgh fandom.
- RHP Adrian Sampson, 30, was claimed off waivers from the Cubs by the Mariners. The Pirates traded him as a minor-leaguer in 2015 for JA Happ. He's also worked for the Rangers and in Korea.
