The days of the season are getting short...
Notes:
- The Bucs opened the week guns a-blazin', whipping Cincy 8-3. Mitch Keller and Miguel Andujar's bases-loaded double keyed a second win, 4-1, and Kevin Newman's walk off made it a three-game sweep, 4-3, behind Bryce Wilson's pitching and despite Shelty's managing. That's seven in a row over the Cincy nine. Pittsburgh has four sweeps on the season; the Reds were victims twice (the Dodgers and Nats were the other clubs). Saint Louis was another story; the Redbirds took 2-of-3, with the Bucs salvaging the final contest, beating, of all people, Adam Wainwright, who the Pirates last hung a loss on back in 2012.

- IF/OF Andujar reported to the team on Monday (he started as DH) and C Jose Godoy was recalled. The Bucs then DFA'ed IF Michael Chavis and OF Greg Allen, both of whom cleared waivers and were assigned to Indy.
- For the final road trip to St. Louis, the Pirates added RHPs Nick Mears & Junior Fernandez, along with IF Tucupita Marcano, to the taxi squad. Fernández was activated a game later when RHP Wil Crowe was placed on the 15-day IL with right elbow inflammation. Junior pitched (one scoreless frame with three walks) to add to the Pirates record number of player used in a season, now at 67.
- C Tyler Heineman was reinstated from the 7-day concussion IL on Sunday. Utilityman Zack Collins was placed on the 10-day non-Covid IL.
- SS Oneil Cruz had the first four-hit game of his career Monday against the Reds.
- RHP David Bednar recorded his 18th save, his first since July 23rd, on Tuesday night against the Redlegs and added another on Sunday. He missed all of August and much of September with a balky back.
- OF Matt Gorski won't play in the Arizona Fall League; he reinjured his quad at Indy.

- Starling Marte hasn’t played since his finger was fractured by a Mitch Keller pitch on September 6th; the Mets hope to have him back by the playoffs if not by season's end.
- The Braves signed RHP Charlie Morton to a one-year contract worth $20M for the 2023 season, with a $20M club option for 2024 that does not include a buyout.
- Yankee reliever Clay Holmes is dealing with a shoulder issue and is unlikely to pitch the rest of the regular season after receiving a cortisone shot.
