Notes: More Moves, Honors, Get Ready To Shuffle

Not Buctober...

Notes:

  • The Pirates claimed C Ali Sanchez from the Detroit Tigers and RHP Beau Sulser from the Baltimore Orioles. Sulser started 2022 with Pittsburgh before being waived to the O's, and in 22-1/3 IP between the two teams, he had no decisions and a 3.63 ERA. He's been solely an MLB reliever, although the Bucs used him as a starter at Indy. Sanchez has minimal big league experience and spent all of last year in AAA with a rep as a good glove guy while hitting .262. C Jose Godoy was DFA'ed to clear the 40-man spot needed.

  • 3B Ke'Bryan Hayes is one of three finalists for the 2022 NL Golden Glove award.
  • MLB Pipeline picked its All-Rookie team. No Pirate first teamers, but SS Oneil Cruz and RHP Roansy Contreras earned a spot on the second unit.
  • The coming watch list: there are two big personnel issues around the corner - the 40-man roster determinations for the December 7th Rule 5 draft, and the FA market opens after the Series. The Bucs should be looking a catcher, first base, maybe an extra OF'er, and pitching depth both in the rotation and pen.
  • Philadelphia and Houston will meet in the World Series.
